Simon Foot

Richmond Hill, Ontario

Simon is a native of Toronto, Canada and since a young child has always had a passion for sports.  As a young boy, he enjoyed playing league sports including Baseball and Soccer.  At the age of 11, Simon read an article in Sports Illustrated for Kids about Sports Agents. It was a defining moment for Simon, as he knew he did not have the talent to make it as a professional athlete, but was extremely passionate about sports and knew from that moment forward he wanted to work in the sports industry.  He switched his focus to becoming a Sports Agent and has not faltered ever since.  As Simon progressed through life, his interest in sports expanded and was introduced to Hockey.  Enchanted by the speed, finesse, talent, and hitting of the game it quickly became his favorite sport, and his knowledge of the game continues to grow with the evolution of the Sport.  Simon has a keen interest in advanced analytics in all sports, as he studied both qualitative and quantitative stats in his undergrad, receiving top marks.   Simon attended Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo, Ontario, where he acquired his Honours B.A. in Psychology. While at Laurier, Simon was a member of the Laurier Sports Management Club. As part of the club, each member selected a sport of focus and a team of their choosing and participated in a Simulated GM Dynasty.   Simon was awarded the top GM for the NHL simulation. Upon graduation, he was hired as Sales and Service Insurance Broker at Grey Power Insurance. While there he was dual licensed in the provinces of Alberta and Ontario.  As much as Simon enjoyed working in the insurance industry, he still wanted to pursue his career dream of being in the sports industry and becoming a Sports Agent. He decided to attend law school overseas at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.  He studied there for two years and obtained his LL.B.   During the summer between his first and second year he worked as a Legal and Finance intern at the sports marketing and finance firm remBrand Sports back in Toronto. remBrand was a firm that helped athletes plan for retirement by looking at marketing and investment opportunities. Simon enjoyed his time in the U.K. so much so that he decided to stay there another year working with a public sector procurement firm (NEPRO) as a Supplier and Systems Administrator.  He worked full time and studied and wrote the seven mandatory conversion exams required for him to practice law in Toronto. Simon is now located in Toronto and is a Student-At-Law with a Personal Injury Law Firm.  Simon wrote his Barristers exam in Fall 2015 and is scheduled to write his Solicitor’s exam in March 2016, and plans to be called to the Bar by June 2016. Additionally, in the Fall of 2015 Simon completed Sport’s Management Worldwide’s Athlete Management Course. There he was trained by Dr. Lynn Lashbrook. His training included agent regulations and player association legalities, contract negotiation, endorsements, sponsorships, ethics, collective bargaining agreements, draft preparation, marketing and recruiting. He has since elected to join their agency as an Agent Advisor.  Simon is further broadening his knowledge by currently studying Hockey Management and Scouting with Sport’s Management Worldwide.  Simon’s goal is to help athletes find their dream career in sports, but not only serve as a mentor on their path but also be a valued friend as someone they can trust and rely on for help and advice. Simon uses a holistic approach that emphasizes not only career planning, but also focuses on ensuring the athlete is in a good position post-retirement, the importance of which he has learnt about during his time at remBrand Sports. Simon is an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, along with the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Raptors, Arsenal and more recently Toronto FC. Simon is friendly and approachable and is always more than willing to help so if you have any questions, feel free to contact him.
