Rodrigo “Obed” Ayarza” attended Changuinola American Academy. He is commonly recognized as Obed, translated, means servant of God. Obed has an older brother Max Ayarza who plays for the Houston Astros organization.

At an early age his parents noticed that Obed was unique. Obed started playing baseball at the age of 3 years old and demonstrated that he can hit from both sides of the plate aiding in his ability to become switch hitter.  Obed is truly ambidextrous. He can throw and write with both hands.

Obed has been representing his province since the age of 6. He also had the opportunity to represent his country of Panama at the Pre-World Baseball Cup.

In July 25, 2011 at the age of 16 Obed signed with the Texas Rangers. He is currently in the Rangers’ Dominican Republic complex in Boca Chica preparing for the Dominican Winter Instructional League.
