Robert Haynes is a defensive back prospect from Division II Michigan Tech, a two-sport athlete and a man-to-man type corner who relies mainly on his speed to defend receivers. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Haynes earned All-Capital Area Athletic Conference honors during his junior and senior seasons and was a team captain.
He also participated in the school track and field program for four years and holds the Tech school record in the 100-meter dash at 10.48 - so you can see speed is a strength. He also has a great attitude and the determination to make it to the next level.
Robert is an extremely athletic football player who attended Grand Valley States and Michigan States pro-day. He ran a blistering 40 time of 4.30, posted a 38 inch vertical, benched 225lbs an impressive 26 times and did a sub 4.14 short shuttle. To show his explosiveness he posted a broad jump of 10ft 6 inches and did great in the position drills.
College Career
2008 Led the team with 4 INTS for 104 yds, 36 Kick returns for 752 yds, Led the team with 7 pass break ups and 11 pass defended. 6th on the team with 39 tackles. Recorded 5 returns for 121yd vs Saginaw. Returned INT 80 yds for TD against Northern Michigan. Also named Defensive back of the year 2007: Started all 11 games as the primary kick returner and split time at cornerback. Posted second-most kick return yards in the GLIAC with 778 Averaged a league sixth-best 21.0 yards per kick return. Posted 37 tackles on the season including 30 solos Returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown and recovered a fumble vs. Indianapolis (9/8) Had a career-high eight tackles at Hillsdale (9/29) 2006: Earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Awarded Daniel Dopp Award as special teams player of the year. Finished second in the GLIAC in kickoff returns with an average of 26.5 yards per return. Played in all 10 games Registered 29 tackles and two interceptions as a cornerback. Had a season-high six tackles at Indianapolis (9/9) 2005: Was a regular in the defensive backfield and started all nine games as a kick returner. Recorded 17 tackles including 11 solos during the season. Notched a season-high four tackles vs. Ferris State. Averaged 25.0 yards on eight kickoff returns during the season. 2004: Redshirted. Named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year.
High School: Graduated from Lansing Sexton (Mich.) High School in 2004. Personal: Son of Robert Haynes and Cynthia Jackson of Lansing, Mich. Born Dec. 21, 1985, in Lansing, Mich. Advanced to the 2007 NCAA Championships in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as a member of the Michigan Tech track & field team.
