Height: 6'4'' Weight: 225 Position: Pitcher Bats/Throws: R/R College: Lackawanna College (PA) Hometown: Danville, PA MLB Draft Round/Class: 16th Round Selection in the 2010 MLB Draft MLB Organization: Atlanta Braves Dan Winnie, professional baseball pitcher, is a graduate of Danville High School (PA), where he landed on MLB Scouts' radar by dominating the PIAA high school ranks while flashing a 90-93 MPH fastball as Junior. Dan was also an outstanding wrestler at Danville High School winning the PIAA State Silver Medal his senior year. After taking some time away from the game to heal an injury, he broke back onto the scene the summer of 2009 dominating American Legion Baseball. During the summer of 2009, Winnie did not allow an Earned Run all season, and pitched a perfect game against Hughesville, earning the 2009 Misavage Award for the area's top American Legion Baseball player. In 2010, Winnie played his first year of collegiate baseball at Lackawanna College (PA). As a freshman, he helped lead the Falcons to the Region XIX Championship while posting a 7-1 record and a team leading 64 strikeouts (2nd in Region XIX). He finished the season ranked 10th nationally in the NJCAA Division II statistical category of Strikeouts Per Nine Innings with a 1.16 average. He had a career day against Frederick (MD) Community College in the NJCAA Northeast District Series opening game, allowing only 5 hits in a 9 inning complete game victory. He struck out 11 Frederick batters in the game, and struck out the side in the 9th inning to end the game. He was drafted in the 16th Round by the Atlanta Braves, the 494th pick overall. |
