2010-2011 : York Revolution
Agent Advisor : Jarrod Brown, SMWW, 914.424.8913 –or- jbrown@smww.com
The 2011 season is the fourth in a Revolution uniform for the fan-favorite Thurman, making him the longest tenured player in team history. A year-round York resident, Thurman enters the season as the Revolution’s all-time career leader in wins (25), starts (70), strikeouts (286), and innings pitched (381.2).
Last year, the former big leaguer went 10-8 with a 4.56 ERA in 26 appearances, 25 of which were starts. His ERA ranked in the top 10 in the league, and it was the second time in three seasons with the Revs he had posted double-digit wins, having racked up 11 victories for the 2008 playoff team. Thurman, who pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2002 and 2003, held opponents to just a .250 batting average last season, and struck out 100 batters while walking only 45. Thurman posted his best ERA with York in 2009, sporting a 3.28 mark in 16 starts.
Thurman was a fourth-round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals in 1996 out of Texas High School in Texarkana, TX. He ascended the Royals' chain, being named a Carolina League All-Star in 2000 and a Texas League All-Star in 2001 along the way.
Thurman was selected by Toronto in the Rule V Draft following the 2001 season, and spent all of 2002 in the Blue Jays' bullpen, where he earned two wins with a 4.37 ERA. Thurman appeared in six more games, including three starts, with the Blue Jays in 2003. He has also pitched in the Reds, Expos, and Brewers organizations
