De Giacomo is a big-hitting defensive back with a nose for the ball. Listed No. 1 at the strong safety position for UNLV Rebels heading into Junior and senior collegiate campaign years. A good overall athlete for the position, who played corner back before transitioning to the safety position, De giacomo has been impressive in run support as he's been his entire collegiate career. He does a good job in getting to where his zone starts and he does a good job of reading the quarterback's eyes and getting a good jump on the play. Alex demonstrates as a consistent, reliable tackler with an explosive hits at the point of contact.

De Giacomo finished his senior collegiate career, second on the team in total tackles with 84, tied for third with four tackles for loss, turned in four pass breakups and tied for the squad lead with two fumble recoveries. An addition De Giacomo earned the 2010 UNLV Most Valuable Player award-Defense and the 2010 Bill "Wildcat" Morris Most Inspirational Award. The only player in 2010 to earn two awards on the team.
