I am a retired police officer living in New Jersey. Upon my retirement, I earned my Masters Degree in Education (Administration and Supervision) from Seton Hall University in 1999. I have been working in higher education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, since the fall of 1999 as both an adjunct and full – time professor in the subject area of criminal justice. I have done consulting, curriculum development, police training, and have owned and operated my own private investigation agency as well. I also worked for a time as the N.J. Territory Manager for MaxPreps in its early stages, where I had daily dealings with high school coaches, student athletes, and athletic directors with regards to their high school programs and athletes showcasing their talent and statistics nationwide on the MaxPreps website.
As a former high school and college athlete, I achieved a moderate level of success on the playing field in the sports of baseball and football. I was in the NFL Supplemental Draft held on June 26th of 1980, had a try-out with the N.Y. Giants (1980) arranged by former Director of Pro Personnel Jim Trimble, and had several free–agent offers to try–out with the Dallas Cowboys (1981-82), Denver Broncos (1981), Detroit Lions (1982) Miami Dolphins (1982), and New England Patriots (1982). In addition, with regards to baseball, I had try-outs with several Major League Baseball organizations and teams including the Major League Scouting Bureau (1977), Cincinnati Reds (1979), New York Yankees (1980 & 1982), California Angels (1982).
My philosophy is very simple. I believe that an agent must be a strong communicator, a leader, ethical, trustworthy, diligent, and knowledgeable with regards to any and all dealings they have with an athlete/client, their family, coaches, athletic directors etc…. This relationship is built on trust over time and in my mind is all about becoming part of a family. I know firsthand what it is like to have the dream of playing professional sports and working hard to try and achieve it. I would like to be part of your journey as you try to attain this goal as well.
“The term agent covers a broad range of relationships with an athlete. An agent may simply be a personal friend, family lawyer, teacher, or coach who helps negotiate a contract. At the other extreme, an agent may be part of an international conglomerate that handles all financial matters for the athlete. Most agents fill a role somewhere between friend and all-purpose management firm” (Ruxin, 2010)
